Summary of Trip to Ethiopia
From August 9-14, about 24 evangelists from different parts of Ethiopia, currently ministering among the Banna/Hamer people (Banna and Hamer speak different dialects of the same language), received tutor training for teaching the Banna primers. The following week, 16 of their wives, three more evangelists, and 1 local Christian lady, received tutor training. As in Alduba, some of the trainees could not read well enough themselves, or did not know the Banna/Hamer language well enough, to fully benefit from the training. However, we prayerfully anticipate that some of them will use this tool effectively for evangelism and discipling. Please pray with us to that end.
From August 28 to September 3, Aari translators Duba and Fikadu worked with me on Joshua and Judges. We completed a draft of Joshua through chapter 17, and of Judges through chapter 16.
My last week in Alduba, September 6-10, was spent with Banna translators Getu and Ayke. I had sent them a CARLA draft of Luke 1-10, and they had revised it through chapter 8. We were able to go over their revision through Luke 5:16.
I arrived safely back in Longview the evening of September 14th. I found Mother well, praise God! I am praying that she won’t catch the cold I brought from Alduba.
I have seen God at work, and even though we didn’t "accomplish" as much tangibly as I had hoped, I am confident that He will fulfill His purpose as we continue to look to Him.
