Temesgen S., a young Gurage man came across SIM’s radio program called “The way of Reconciliation”. Because it was in his own language, he and his family began listening to it regularly. A year later, they decided to follow Christ. They were so happy in their new-found faith that they moved to a place where there was an evangelical church.

Some time later, Temesgen shared the Good News of Jesus Christ with his parents, who had spent their whole lives worshiping a well-know spirit (Chaha-waq). Temesgen’s father was the one who slaughtered the cows people brought for sacrifice to this spirit. On a certain holiday honoring this spirit, over 5,000 cows would be sacrificed, bringing Temesgen’s father great financial gain. So when Temesgen first shared the Good News with his parents, they were strongly opposed to the message.

Temesgen returned home and continued to pray for his parents. God answered his prayers and soon both his parents became Christians too. They completely stopped worshipping Chaha-waq, and were now worshipping the true God. Three months later, Temesgen’s father died.

Because of the Gurage radio ministry, which uses the Gurage New Testament, Temesgen and his extended family came to know Christ. Let’s pray that many others will also hear and understand and come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. Only He can give us the abundant life we long for.

“… greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4 (NASV)
